Welcome to Iowa's Area Education Agencies
Iowa's Area Education Agencies (AEAs) work together as a system to ensure all Iowa children have equal opportunity for an exceptional education. Advocates including teachers, school administrators, parents, community members, and AEA staff can support the AEA's mission.
Research has shown that students academically achieve better when they receive social-emotional and mental health support. Good mental health is more than the absence of mental illness but also includes the areas of social-emotional-behavioral well-being and the developing coping skills to better handle life’s challenges. When schools develop mental health programming it also improves classroom behaviors, creates a more positive school climate, students feel more connected to school/staff and overall student well-being.

"The AEA's continued support allowed our building to build capacity within our staff in regards to the fidelity of the AIW framework. Without the AEA seeing the positive investment to AIW, it would have been very difficult to sustain the framework within our building for the past eight years."
